Medical teams from North America and New Zealand are expressing interest in travelling to Fiji to help with the COVID-19 crisis.

Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said this while delivering an update on the virus outbreak in Parliament.

He said so far the World Health Organization and Australia New Zealand Medical Assistance Team have been providing virtual daily advice and have a physical presence in mentoring, guiding, evaluating the work on the ground.

“In addition, we have interest for other teams to come over, an American team, a New Zealand-based PACMAS team and a Rubicon team,” Dr Waqainabete said.

“These teams are already in consultations and are talking to my permanent secretary and our group of experts as they manoeuvre through this response.”
