Punjabi singer, actor and director’s Ardaas Karaan gets the biggest opening for a Punjabi film in New Zealand, Forum Films reported.

Ardaas Karaan stars director Gippy Grewal himself, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Sapna Pabbi, Meher Vij, Jograj Singh and Rana Jung Bahadur among others and was released in New Zealand on Friday, July 19.

Director of the film and actor Gippy Grewal travelled to New Zealand for its premier at Sylvia Parks Hoyts Cinemas in Auckland which attended by over 100 invited VIPs from the community.

The film is a sequel to the 2016 film Ardaas directed by Gippy Grewal which too received rave reviews from the across the globe.

The film revolves around three generation of families living in Canada and the disconnect between them due to the generation gap. The film has some emotional moments juxtaposed with comic timings, great music and a beautiful ending.

Director Gippy Grewal acknowledged the efforts behind the film saying this film was very special for him as it has a powerful message for the families.

“The story of the film is very close to my heart, and at the screening in Australia, we received a standing ovation at the end of the film,” actor Gippy Grewal said at the premiere.

“This the second film in the Ardaas film series planned and this film has the elements that connect all three generations of people- the elders, the children or youth and the young men and women,” Gippy Grewal told The Indian Weekender at the premier.

Forum Films, the distributor for Indian films in Australia and New Zealand reported that the film in its first weekend only the film crossed over $90,000, which was the highest-grossing weekend of a Punjabi movie in New Zealand in 2019.

The film received four and a half and five stars in reviews done by different media houses in the Asia-Pacific region.

Ardaas Karaan is currently being screened at selected Hoyts and Event Cinemas in New Zealand.
