A 26-year-old Indian woman has passed away in Auckland last week.

The circumstances of the death are being investigated by the police, and the name of the deceased cannot be revealed at the moment.

“The police became aware of a sudden death incident involving a person who died at Auckland Hospital on Friday, June 26,” NZ Police responded to an enquiry by the Indian Weekender

The Indian Weekender has learnt through reliable sources that the woman hailed from New Delhi and came to New Zealand on a student visa in 2017 and pursued Business course, Level 8 at Whitiria College in Auckland CBD.

The 26-year-old was on a work visa and was working as a retail assistant at the newly opened Westfield Mall in Newmarket, Auckland.

A close contact of the deceased said he was informed of the death on Friday afternoon who later informed her family in India.

“She was very smart, an intelligent person, but used to be reserved about personal matters,” the close contact said on the condition of anonymity.

“It’s sad that such a bright life and left us so soon,” he added.

The Indian High Commission is in touch with the family of the deceased in India and local authorities in New Zealand.

“We are making the best efforts to repatriate her body via Vande Bharat Mission led upcoming Air India flight to India,” a spokesperson from the Consulate of India in Auckland told The Indian Weekender.
