According to a source onboard the Auckland-bound Air New Zealand flight NZ281 from Singapore, the plane had to return to Singapore within three hours due to an engineering issue.

The flight was expected to arrive in Auckland at 10:35 pm. All the passengers onboard are at the Singapore airport waiting for further information about the rescheduled flight.

One of the passengers received this message from the airline:

We would like to apologise for the return of your flight this morning, NZ281 Singapore to Auckland.

As you may be aware, this was due to an engineering issue that was identified, which required the aircraft to return to its original port.

At this stage we are rebooking you and you will receive a copy of your new flight details soon. Any connecting flights issued on the same ticket, these will also be rebooked for you.

Once you have your new flight details, you will need to update your NZTD: https://airnz.click/declaration

Should you wish to attempt to claim any associated costs through your travel insurance provider, this message may serve as confirmation of this disruption.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and subsequent discomfort this diversion will have caused, thank you for your understanding.
