Deg Tegh Fateh Sikh Society Inc Christchurch NZ recently took possession of newly acquired land on which the new building for Gurudwara Sahib will come up next year.
As of now, the Gurudwara Sahib is located in leased premises at 29 Kilmarnock Street, Riccarton, Christchurch.
During the Shukrana Samagam held on 18 November, members of the sangat were informed about the acquisition and shown around the property. The day was marked by paath, kirtan prayers and langar was served.
The land located in 517 Hamptons Road, Prebbleton, is spread over 6 hectares and has a small built-up area which will be expanded.
As Sukhjinder Singh, president of the society, told us about its building plans: "We are grateful to our sangat for helping us secure the land. We hope to move in by next year from our current leased premises in Riccarton."
"Due to the community's growth and the need for more prayer space, the new building will be bigger and have more parking spaces."
The land acquired will be used to build a community school, a kindergarten, a community kitchen, and different playground areas, besides the main Gurudwara Sahib.
The Society also plans to teach horse riding to kids.
