The community on Sunday, October 1 celebrated one of the most important days of this festive season, Dussehra at Alexandra Park in Greenlane, Auckland.

The event was organised by Maa Shakti Charitable Trust, a not-for-profit community organisation in Auckland that saw more than 700 people witness the grandeur.

Dussehra is the day when Lord Rama killed the ten-headed demon king Ravana and gave the throne of his kingdom Lanka to his brother Vibhishana. Since then, the day of Vijaya Dashmi (Dussehra) is considered to be auspicious and festive by the people of India and is celebrated as the day that symbolizes the victory of good over evil.

The programme included cultural dance performances, Ramleela performed by kids, Ravan Dahan (Burning of the effigy of Ravana) and fireworks display.
