Kiwi-Indian MP Priyanca Radhakrishnan delivered her maiden speech in NZ parliament in style on Thursday, November 16.
The speech which started with customary greetings in Maori language and Malayali, her mother tongue back from Kerala in India almost revisited her enterprising journey as a migrant in this country.
It referred to both India and Singapore, from where Ms Radhakrishnan traces her origin, and the growing up days, respectively, before settling in New Zealand permanently.
There were marked references to her initial days of work in the advocacy of ethnic women rights, migrant worker exploitation and the genealogy of socialist thinking within her family back from India.
Ms Radhakrishnan also shined in the glory of the fact of being the first-ever Indian-born Labour MP in NZ parliament.
However, indeed the star attraction of the evening was, and surprise for many, the Bhangra performance by a small group of performers in the gallery of the parliament.
