Shanti Niwas Charitable Trust, a non-profit organisation, has a 23-year history of working with senior citizens of Indian and South Asian origin living in the Auckland region.
Its mission is to make visible signs of hope, empower those whom society has neglected and celebrate change and diversity.
Shanti Niwas services include delivering, Positive Ageing Day Programmes in the wider Auckland region, KHUSHI - Elder Abuse and Neglect Prevention Service, DOSTI - Visiting Service, SNEH - Emergency Home facility. The Trust based on its empowerment model has services and projects such as Community Ambassador, Prison Visiting Service, NZ Senior Indian Idol.
The seniors are provided with a platform to actively interact with the community and encouraged to share their experiences, skills and talents with the youth and the wider community.
The Trust has been providing culturally appropriate services, advocacy, counselling, translation services and conducts information workshops on health and wellbeing.
Over the last twenty years, Shanti Niwas has assisted hundreds of seniors, obtaining aged care services like, Transport Mobility card, home help, access health-related practical assistance, etc.
The Trust has provided Information sharing sessions and workshops on Rest homes; WINZ -Entitlements for older people, such as emergency benefits, NZ Superannuation Entitlements, housing; Enduring Power of Attorney; health & disability assistance; and other aged related services.
The trust is also partnering with Age Concern to provide Elder Abuse Response Service, which has been contracted by the Ministry of Social Development EARS project to the South Asian Community within Auckland.
Shanti Niwas has a dedicated and passionate team of Social workers, diversional therapist and other professionals who provide information and services to the seniors. The eam is supported by a wider network of service providers who are engaged frequently to provide information as well as services to our seniors.
