The New Zealand chapter of Overseas Friends of BJP Youth organised an essay competition for the young Kiwi-Indians on their vision of India 2027 when India will complete its 80 years of independence.
The essay competition ‘My Visionary Bharat in 2027’ was announced on November 8, 2018, divided into two age categories- 12 to 18 years and 19 to 26 years old.
Participating individuals were asked to register and submit their essays by November 27 and the results to be announced after assessment by the judges in December.
Subsequently, the results were announced on December 2, and award ceremony was held on Sunday, December 23, at Bhartiya Community Centre, to coincide with Christmas celebrations by the Hindu Elder Foundation in Auckland.
The winner and runner-up in the 12-18 years category were Lineysha Dutt and Yug Tyagi, respectively. While in the 19-26 years category Prajwal Uchil took the first place, and Aashish Sharma was named as runner up.
The winner and runner-up in each category were awarded $100 and $50 vouchers along with the ‘Visionary Youth’ certificate given to all participants at the event.
Senior members of the community, OFBJP NZ volunteers and community leaders gathered at the award ceremony that also remembered the contributions of Bharat Ratna recipient and former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The event also acknowledged the works of OFBJP NZ in the passing year whereby bringing together the elders, experienced members of the community and the youth under one roof.
“The event really helped the youth to connect with Bharat on one side and to equip the karyakartas (volunteers) with organisation skills,” Hardik Desai of OFBJP - NZ Youth said.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants as well the sponsors of the event and making the day truly memorable for all of us,” he added.
