The Indian government has conferred Pravasi Bhartiya Samman - the prestigious and the highest award to an overseas-based person of Indian origin - to New Zealand'sfirst Kiwi-Indian Minister Priyanca Radha Krishnan.
This was announced by India's President Ram Nath Kovind, on Saturday, January 9, who delivered the valedictory address on the third and final day of the 16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations, presented the awards at a virtual event.
The award is the highest honour conferred by the President of India as part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Conventions on a Non-Resident Indian (NRI), Person of Indian Origin (PIO), and organisation or institution established and run by NRIs or PIOs.
Ms Radhakrishnan received the award in the category of public service.
The Indian High Commissioner to New Zealand Muktesh Pardeshi congratulated Priyanca on Twitter for becoming the 7th Kiwi-Indian to be conferred by this prestigious award.
Priyanca became the seventh Kiwi-Indian to be conferred with this prestigious award from the government of India joining the elite company of Sukhi Turner, Judge Ajit Swaran Singh, Sir Anand Satyanand, Kanwaljeet Singh Bakshi, Dr Satendra Kumar Singh, and Bhav Dhillon.
