Telugu community of Auckland got a chance on Sunday, November 19, to participate in one of the preparatory meeting currently being held in several countries around the world, in the lead up to the much-publicised event of World Telugu Conference.

The government of the Indian state of Telangana is organizing five days World Telugu Conference (Prapancha Telugu Mahasabhalu) from Dec 15 to Dec 19 at Hyderabad.

The Telangana Sahitya Academy is organizing the conference, and the Chairman, Nandini Siddareddy and other core committee members are working vigorously to make this conference an historical event.

The Chief Minister of the State, K. Chandrashekar Rao is also taking a personal interest in the success of the event.

Recently, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Party MP, Kalvakuntla Kavitha had opened an office in Hyderabad, exclusively dedicated to the Conference, signalling the intent of the government to make this mega event a grand success.

The government is seeking to mobilise the broader Telugu community all around the world and encourage participation in the event.

Toward this goal Mahesh Bigala, the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) coordinator of the World Telugu Conference, is travelling to the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Austria to meet and invite all NRIs and community groups to participate in the Telugu conference and make it a grand success.

Preparatory meetings are also being held in these countries along with Australia and Denmark to encourage Telugu community to participate in the mega event back in the Telugu heartland city of Hyderabad.

One such preparatory meeting was organised in Auckland on Sunday, November 19, by Vijay Reddy Kosna, Kalyan Rao Kasuganti, Narender Reddy Patllola and other leaders of the Telangana community. 

During the meeting, information related to the conference was presented by Manabadi Telugu Language School Co-Founder, Muralidhar Rangu, and Manabadi language school teacher, Sunitha Vijay.

Ms Vijay has been providing financial assistance to the language school for the past three years to encourage the language in New Zealand.

Notably, Telugu Association President Dharmendar Alle also asked members of the Telugu community to be part of the World Telugu Conference, and Arunajyothi Muddam from Telangana Jagruthi New Zealand and their committee members were also present at the meet.

The conference would be held in Lal Bahadur Stadium as the main venue, whereas Ravindra Bharathi, Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium, Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Nizam College Grounds, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pingle Venkatram Reddy Hall and Shilpa Kala Vedika will be hosting other programmes.
