During the Telangana movement, New Zealand Telanganites hugely supported the separate statehood cause by sending solidarity messages to the leaders of Telangana.

Once Telangana was announced, and the bill was passed, jubilant Telanganites of New Zealand celebrated, and the community was open for a public event by conducting ‘Telangana Sambaralu’ on March 9, 2014.

Later on October 2, 2015, on Gandhi Jayanthi,  Telangana Association of New Zealand was officially registered. Since then, TANZ is conducting public events to preserve and encourage culture, heritage, customs and festivals of Telangana.

On October 9, 2016, TANZ invited the first female Member of Parliament from Telangana, Smt Kalvakuntla Kavitha and celebrated the remarkable event “Bathukamma Sambaram” (floral festival). It was one of the most memorable events attend by NZ Members of Parliament, other community leaders and more than 2000 people participated in the event.

Since the inception of TANZ, the executive committee and advisory committee members have been maintaining an excellent relationship with Indian diaspora and other community organisations.
